The kitchens

While the majority of the buildings excavated served as accommodation for the soldiers, we also have remains of buildings whose characteristics suggests they served a different purpose. The floor of one of these buildings was composed of a thick slab of concrete, carefully constructed and divided into two rooms. In the main room we find the brickwork remains of a double oven and fireplace, almost certainly used to prepare meals for the whole third level of this camp. The concrete floor was also fitted with a metal drain in one corner, for the waste water from cooking and cleaning.
