German camps in the second line

As we move further back from the front line the barrack sites become more numerous, and many of the slopes which would have been sheltered from artillery fire are densely packed with the foundations of buildings which are now covered by the forest but still visible. These reserve line camps were home to the troops responsible for supplying and maintaining the front line. They could also be called upon to provide rapid support to the front-line forces in the event of an enemy attack.
