The Argonnen Bahn

Supplying a battle front which demanded ever more men and equipment required numerous connections between the front line and the rear. In the Argonne, the steep contours of the terrain and the relative scarcity of roads through the forest led to the creation of countless narrow railroad lines (60cm in width). This dense railway network connected almost all of the camps and logistical depots to the front line trenches. While the rails have long since disappeared, a number of these lines are still visible today.
