German camps on the front line

Just behind this second defensive line, and in some places even in front of it, the remains of a few German camps are still visible. Visible from the traces of numerous buildings, these camps were set up on the north-facing slopes of the valley, thus sheltered from French artillery fire. They provided a certain amount of protection and relative comfort for the accommodation of front line troops.
